Although iron is the most abundant metal in the human body, trace amounts of gold can also be found in tissues such as blood and organs. A 70 kg adult is estimated to contain around 0.2 milligrams of gold. While certain gold-based medicines have been used to treat inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, there is currently no confirmed evidence that the trace amounts of gold naturally present in the body play a specific role in maintaining joint health.
