The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest living structure on Earth. Stretching for around 2,300 km, it is made up of nearly 3,000 individual coral reefs and hundreds of coral islands. Under favourable conditions, parts of the reef can be seen from space, although it is not the only living feature visible from orbit.
