Beluga whales are highly social marine mammals that can migrate up to 6,000 km (3,730 miles) each year between seasonal habitats.
During these migrations, young belugas learn important routes and survival skills from older members of the group. Belugas are famous for their wide range of whistles, clicks, chirps, and other vocalisations, earning them the nickname “canaries of the sea.”
They are also among the few animals known to imitate certain sounds, including human speech-like vocalisations.
