How Deep is the Mariana Trench?

The Mariana Trench is 11,034 meters deep. If we were to place Mount Everest at the bottom of the trench, the peak would still be 2,133 meters below sea level. This did not stop human curiosity for on 23 January 1960, two explorers, a US Navy lieutenant and a Swiss engineer, were the first people to dive all the way to the bottom of the trench.
