Some bamboo tree species such as the tropical giant bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) can grow up to 1.2 metres in a day. As bamboo trees grow in dense forests where there is less light in lower regions of the forests, plants need to grow tall quickly to reach the sunlight, so that they can grow and survive. Unlike other trees, bamboo trees grow with the same diameter till they are able to get sunlight instead of wasting growth on thickening the bamboo stalk.
Why does bamboo grow so fast?
