Why are polar bears nearly undetectable by infrared cameras?

Thermal cameras detect the heat lost by a subject as infrared. Since polar bears are expert at conserving heat using a thick layer of fat under their skin, heat levels released by the polar bears are usually undetectable by infrared cameras.
