A hummingbird is not only able to fly backwards but also upward, downwards as well as sustain hovering. These abilities of the hummingbirds are contributed by its unique wing design that differs from other birds. They have rotator cuff muscles similar to humans that allows them to move their wings in a figure-eight movement.
